Study Shows Mental Health Issues Persist After Transgender Treatment

(ConservativeJournal.org) – Finnish researchers have made a startling new finding in a recent study suggesting that transgender-affirming medical care doesn’t reduce patients’ needs for ongoing psychiatric care, quite the opposite.

The study was published in November’s issue of European Psychiatry and analyzed the outcomes of 3,665 people who sought gender-based medical care from 1996 to 2019 in Finland.

The results were even more startling, despite receiving gender reassignment interventions the patients seemingly required more psychiatric care and developed additional problems or had their existing problems worsened by the treatments.

The most commonly reported comorbid conditions were severe mood disorders which occurred much more frequently in the group seeking transgender medical services than matched controls. The next most common problem was anxiety disorders, which was roughly equivalent to the control group.

The researchers also noted that autism spectrum disorders occurred much more frequently in the gender dysphoric group.

They also found that folks presenting for dysphoria today have more comorbidities than they did in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Dr. Riittakerttu Kaltiala helped establish the early protocols for giving hormones to children in Europe but now has dramatically reversed course saying it only makes things worse across the board. She noticed that the young people she treated with hormones early on failed to thrive and were seemingly deteriorating after treatment.

Kaltiala has also publicly opposed surgical interventions for children, specifically a trend in America to remove healthy breasts from teenage girls.

While alarm bells are going off across the West with speakers like Billboard Chris and detransitioners like Chloe Cole sounding the alarm, there are still hundreds of thousands of teens identifying as transgender.

Organizations hosting sporting events also continue to allow men to compete with women under a transgender rationale.

Critics call for surgeons who performed the surgeries to be held civilly liable for the damages, should patients regret the decision. Many states around the country have already enacted laws to prohibit the treatments, while states like California and Vermont have gone in the opposite direction and protected the practices with the force of law.
