Fetterman: ‘Squatters Have No Rights’

(ConservativeJournal.org) – Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is breaking with his party and siding with property owners after a rash of squatters taking over properties by occupying them made national headlines. Speaking with New York Post writer Jon Levine on April 6, Fetterman said “squatters have no rights,” suggesting further that squatters are just stealing and breaking the law.

He also stated emphatically that he is “not woke,” highlighting the distance between his party’s view on the subject and himself. He compared the practice of squatting to stealing a car. He suggested it would be insane to grant someone the right to keep stolen property like a car simply because they had it for 30 days.

Fetterman also highlighted his support for law enforcement and criticized the soft-on-crime politics of the Democrats. He said that he has gone to the funerals of slain officers, and referenced the recent killing of 31-year-old NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, leaving behind his wife and infant child.

He suggested that the murderer should “spend the rest of his life in prison” with no possibility of release. The suspect, Guy Rivera, had 21 prior arrests for violent crimes and drug charges, but was free and armed when he shot and killed Diller during a traffic stop in March.

Fetterman suggested a second chance is fine, but 20 chances is indicative of a pattern that isn’t going to change. He said that folks who criminally offend repeatedly must be “held accountable.” He suggested that governments have to be “very smart and aggressive on crime.”

Fetterman’s support for Israel and eating meat are two other issues where he has broke with his party’s mainstream.

Fetterman even criticized his colleague, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who suggested Israel hold new elections. Fetterman suggested that Schumer’s call for elections was akin to “regime change.” He also called Israel America’s “key special ally” in the Middle East.
