Mayorkas: Trump Assassination Attempt Was A Security ‘Failure’

(ConservativeJournal.org) – Head of the Department for Homeland Security (DHS), Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas described the attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life as a failure of the U.S. Secret Service, suggesting that the agency should have prevented the shooting from occurring altogether.

Federal, state, and Congressional authorities will run multiple investigations as many commenters online have been struck by the fact that 20-year-old Thomas Crooks was able to climb onto a nearby roof unimpeded. Crooks was also identified as a potential security threat for minutes prior to him opening fire on Trump.

Mayorkas (who is also largely blamed for the southern border crisis) told the corporate press that incidents like this simply “cannot happen.” He highlighted Biden’s instructions for a full review of the incident which will be made public when it’s complete. Mayorkas’ DHS oversees the Secret Service, but he did not accept accountability or responsibility for the failure; he did say that the DHS review of the incident will result in changes to ensure nothing like it can happen again.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is facing numerous calls to resign in the aftermath of the shooting which claimed the life of one rally attendee and injured two others. Trump was also hit in the ear, the bullets whizzing just passed his head. Cheatle told the corporate press that Trump’s security detail has already been altered without specifying what was changed.

Video of Trump at the Republican National Convention on Monday, July 15 showed that Trump’s security detail was exclusively made up of tall men. Trump was also confirmed on Monday as the official Republican nominee for president later that afternoon.

Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday suggesting that third-party candidate for president Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection and the request was granted almost immediately. RFK Jr. had been denied multiple requests for Secret Service protection by the Biden administration until last Monday.
