(ConservativeJournal.org) – Doug Sheehan, a well-known television actor from the 80s, 90s, and early 00’s, famous for his roles in “General Hospital” and “Knots Landing,” has died. He died on June 29 at his home in Wyoming with his wife Cate Abert by his side. He was 75 years old, though the cause of death is not currently known.
Sheehan, a native of Southern California, began his acting career in the late ’70s with minor roles in the original “Charlie’s Angels” series and CBS’ award-winning “Kaz”. His big break came in 1979 when he started playing private detective Joe Kelly on ABC’s “General Hospital”. From 1979 to 1982, Sheehan appeared in over 200 episodes, depicting Joe Kelly’s transformation from a detective to a lawyer.
After his huge success on “General Hospital,” Sheehan secured a significant role on CBS’ “Knots Landing”. In the show, he portrayed journalist Ben Gibson and appeared in over 100 episodes throughout its run.
In 1988, Sheehan returned to ABC to co-star in the family sitcom “Day by Day”, which ran until 1989. The cast included many known names at the time and further boosted his own fame due to the big success of the show.
After this, Sheehan shifted to smaller roles, making appearances in shows like “MacGyver”, “Columbo”, and “Dear John” during the early ’90s. In 1997, Sheehan joined the cast of the TV adaptation of Amy Heckerling’s “Clueless”, taking over the role of Mel Horowitz. The show moved from ABC to UPN for its third season before being canceled in 1999.
Sheehan’s other TV appearances included roles in coming of age shows like “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” from the early 2000’s.
Outside of acting, Sheehan was passionate about polo. He is survived by his wife, Cate Abert. A funeral service is currently being arranged, according to Kane Funeral Homes, who is handling the arrangements.
