(ConservativeJournal.org) – President Biden’s commitment to stay in the presidential race is starting to cause concern among Democrats. They fear that Biden’s presence on the ticket could turn traditionally blue states into contested battlegrounds.
Democrats reportedly worry that states that Biden won comfortably in 2020 may now be in play. Recent polls suggest tightening races between Biden and former President Donald Trump, including a virtual tie in Virginia and Trump currently leading in New Hampshire.
New Hampshire and Minnesota were lowered from “likely” Biden victories to just leaning in his direction by The Cook Political Report. Last week, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed concerns to Biden about potentially losing her state.
Biden’s prospects in crucial states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – which were previously anticipated to be close races – are threatened by this unpredictability in the battleground states. An expanding battleground map could force Biden’s campaign to redirect resources from traditional swing states.
Biden has shown no signs of stepping down though, saying he is still determined to win. Polls show a close national race, but concerns about Biden’s age, inflation, and voter division are still prevalent.
Interviews with voters in New Mexico revealed a lack of enthusiasm for Biden, with some considering third-party candidates or even supporting Trump. Patricia Benavidez, a former Biden voter, expressed doubts about his capability following the recent debate.
Despite this, some Democrats in places like Minnesota, New Hampshire, and New Mexico are skeptical of Trump’s assertions that he has widespread appeal. Both Representative Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico and Kathy Sullivan, the former chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Hampshire, have doubts about Trump’s chances of winning their states.
In Virginia, Democrats regained control of the General Assembly last year, but even Biden allies there urge caution. The overall sentiment among Democratic officials and strategists is that Biden’s campaign must work hard to address these concerns and maintain support in key states.
