(ConservativeJournal.org) – Former President Donald Trump told an evangelical Christian audience that he was going to work on freeing convicted pro-lifers like 75-year-old Paulette Harlow on his “first day” in office.
Harlow was one of the D.C. nine who engaged in a rescue at a late-term abortion clinic in 2020. In November 2022 she was convicted of violating the FACE act and the nebulous charge of “conspiracy against rights” and sentenced to 24 months in prison. Harlow has multiple health conditions and it is possible she won’t survive in jail.
Trump added that his future administration will review all of Biden’s political prosecutions to repair the damage to our law enforcement and judicial processes done by Biden-appointed Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Trump was speaking to a largely Christian audience gathered by the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C. on June 23. Other speakers at the event include former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Dr. Ben Carson. The three are presumed to be potential VP picks by the Trump campaign.
Trump highlighted Harlow’s case as particularly egregious and promised to free her immediately upon taking power should he win reelection in November. Trump also argued that Biden was persecuting Christians and was able to get away with it due to the cultural attitude toward religious people.
Trump promised to create a task force that would investigate attacks against Christians, suggesting that “the radical left” specifically targets people of faith. Trump also reminded the audience that he supports abortion compromises because the culture hasn’t largely moved towards pro-life with most Americans supporting the “rights” of women to terminate their pregnancies.
Trump’s official position on abortion is that it’s a states’ rights issue and he supports tolerating the practice in the first trimester which is similar to many European states’ laws on the subject.
