(ConservativeJournal.org) – No matter where one stands on the conflict in the Jewish State, few would argue that war does not translate into immense profits for weapons manufacturers. The crisis in the Middle East only appears to be intensifying and as of November 8, Israeli infantry forces are reportedly operating inside the city limits of Gaza’s capital.
On the 31st of October, the White House notified Congress that it had authorized a $320 million sale of weapons assembly kits to an Israeli-based defense contractor. The kits in question were not explosives or elements of explosives, but rather parts of a platform that allow so-called “dumb” bombs to be turned into precision guided munitions.
“Spice” bombs, as they are colloquially referred to, are dropped from an aircraft and then guided into their target with the assistance of GPS. Though the term may remind some of something that is sprinkled on food, “SPICE” is actually an acronym and stands for Smart, Precise Impact and Cost-Effective.
The kits themselves are more or less motorized tail fins that can be manipulated during a bomb’s descent, allowing for course correction if need be. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the purchasing company, made a similar $400-plus million buy of the same devices during the administration of former President Donald Trump.
It may come as no surprise to some that the stateside seller of the weapons kits is none other than the American subsidiary of Israel’s Rafael Advanced. Rafael USA, which is based in Maryland, manufactures the platforms and also produces a number of air-based weapons, the famed Iron Dome missiles among them.
Only two weeks after war broke out in and around Gaza, the company announced that it would be building a new missile production plant in Arkansas. Earnings reports released by top American weapons producers at the end of October uniformly showed a sharp uptick in sales.
Raytheon’s CEO called it “a benefit of” governments restocking their inventories.
