Rubio Endorsed Trump on Eve of Iowa Vote

(ConservativeJournal.org) – Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida and former 2016 Trump opponent, declared his support for former President Trump on Twitter recently, showing that he prefers Trump over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the 2024 presidential race. Rubio criticized the Biden administration’s performance, saying that Trump’s “extraordinary actions” are crucial to addressing the country’s challenges. In the past, Rubio has also made comments regarding Biden’s age.

In his Twitter post Rubio emphasized the achievements during Trump’s presidency, citing major policies such as the expanded Child Tax Credit and imposing robust sanctions on the regimes in Cuba and Venezuela. He argued that Trump’s leadership, which he said is resistant to special interests and bureaucratic hurdles, especially regarding foreign policy, is essential to reversing the perceived failures of the Biden administration.

Despite their past rivalry in the 2016 primary, Rubio’s endorsement aligns with Senator Rick Scott’s earlier endorsement of Trump, defying DeSantis, their home state’s governor. Trump holds a substantial lead over GOP rivals in Florida, including DeSantis, as indicated by The Hill and other polling data, where Trump holds over a 42-point lead.

Rubio’s endorsement coincides with the Iowa caucuses and follows North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum’s endorsement of Trump, who had also contested against him in 2024. The aforementioned polling results also reveal Trump’s dominant position in Iowa, with a nearly 35-point lead over Nikki Haley, his closest competitor. DeSantis, falling behind Haley, remains confident despite trailing in Iowa polls. Recently, Vivek Ramaswamy also announced the suspension of his presidential bid, and instead also pledged support to Trump.

The Florida Republican primary is scheduled for March 19, where Trump maintains a considerable advantage over other contenders. Both DeSantis and Haley, despite trailing in polls, expressed optimism about their prospects in the Iowa caucuses during appearances on various TV shows and social media.
