Representative Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer

(ConservativeJournal.org) – On Tuesday, December 5, Representative Glenn Thompson, who is a Republican from Pennsylvania, disclosed that he recently received a prostate cancer diagnosis. In a statement shared on Twitter, Thompson revealed that the diagnosis came after routine physical examinations and subsequent tests. Despite the unexpected diagnosis, Thompson expressed feeling well and conveyed his commitment to continue representing Pennsylvania’s 15th District.

In his statement, Thompson, aged 64, affirmed his faith and eternal optimism, emphasizing that these qualities would guide him through the upcoming treatment. He expressed gratitude to his medical team, family, colleagues, and constituents for their support during this challenging time. Thompson assured that he would confront the situation with determination and thanked everyone for their prayers and respect for his privacy while he figures out how to get through the diagnosis.

Despite the health challenge, Thompson signaled his intent to run for re-election in 2024, as indicated on his campaign website. The 15th District he represents encompasses portions of western and central Pennsylvania, with a population exceeding 764,800 residents.

After having been elected to the US House in 2008, Thompson held a number of leadership commissions, including the chair of the House Agriculture Committee. Additionally, he serves on the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Before entering politics, Thompson amassed 28 years of experience in various roles, including therapist, rehabilitation services manager, and licensed nursing home administrator. He also dedicated time as a volunteer firefighter.

Thompson’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Education from Temple University in Philadelphia. He lives in Pennsylvania with his wife Penny Ammerman-Thompson, and has three adult sons. The congressman expressed determination to face the challenges of prostate cancer while continuing his commitment to public service.

Thompson is in his 12th congressional term representing a district that includes portions of Napa, Lake, Sonoma, Yolo, and Solano counties.
