(ConservativeJournal.org) – Russian President Vladimir Putin recently broke his silence on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. This marks Putin’s first public comment regarding the conflict since it began. He attributed the current conflict to US foreign policy and highlighted the necessity for an independent Palestinian state.
Speaking during a meeting at the Kremlin with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, Putin voiced his disapproval of Washington’s foreign policy. He argued that the policy overwhelmingly favored Israel, thereby neglecting the concerns of the Palestinian population.
The recent surge of hostilities began when Hamas militants unexpectedly launched a huge offensive against Israel, focusing heavily on the southern part of the country.
Although Putin first spoke out more than 3 days after this conflict started, his statements closely align with sentiments expressed by Russian officials and media figures. The Russian government claims that the Western world failed to establish a foundation for peace and stability in the region.
Putin said that the US is trying to “monopolize” ceasefire negotiations by being the only country that is allowed to have a dialogue with both sides. According to him, the US did not care for the interests of the Palestinian people. He added that the movement of the aircraft carriers to the Mediterranean Sea supports this idea.
Sergei Lavrov, The Foreign Minister of Russia, stated that he supports a Palestinian state and that the conflict would be resolved much sooner if they were to have their own independent country.
Furthermore, the Kremlin revealed that it is actively in contact with both sides involved in the conflict. They are supposedly attempting to organize an immediate ceasefire and trying to set up new negotiations to put an end to the ongoing violence.
The US State Department condemned the attacks conducted by Hamas against Israel in response to Putin’s remarks. The spokesperson from the State Department said Putin is trying to sow confusion and divert attention away from Russia’s own disruptive actions.
