MTG Plans Another Mayorkas Impeachment Effort

(ConservativeJournal.org) – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is making a second attempt to file articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after her initial effort faced bipartisan opposition. The Republican congresswoman expressed frustration, stating that her first impeachment attempt was obstructed by eight House Republicans decided to side with Democrats.

Appearing on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, Greene criticized fellow Republicans for not taking the border crisis seriously. She emphasized her role on the Homeland Committee, where hearings have addressed issues such as fentanyl-related deaths and the severity of the border situation. Greene questioned how many American lives need to be lost before her colleagues make Mayorkas’ impeachment a priority.

According to Greene, her initial impeachment articles against Mayorkas have been neglected in committee, gathering dust on a shelf. While she didn’t outline a specific strategy for garnering support this time, she emphasized the need for different results from fellow Republicans.

After her first impeachment attempt fell short in a 209-201 vote, Greene expressed disbelief, citing widespread awareness of Mayorkas’ alleged mishandling of the border situation. As aforementioned, eight Republicans joined Democrats in referring Greene’s resolution to the House Homeland Security Committee, which is already investigating Mayorkas for potential impeachment proceedings.

The Department of Homeland Security criticized what they termed “reckless impeachment charades” by congressional Republicans. Some GOP members, while expressing a desire to see Mayorkas impeached, emphasized a cautious approach, wanting a thorough process that ensures a Senate conviction. Greene, however, urged immediate action, highlighting urgent issues like drug trafficking and the risk of a terrorist attack, especially from recent events regarding Israel, as some have theorized that sleeper cells from Hamas or other terrorist groups may have crossed the border.

Greene says her second attempt to impeach Mayorkas reflects her persistence in challenging the secretary’s actions at the southern border, despite facing resistance from both Democrats and some Republicans.
