Mike Johnson Branded As ‘Best Speaker We’ve Had In Decades’

(ConservativeJournal.org) – Reverend Franklin Graham gave comments on Wednesday, May 2 asking Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to rethink her plan to call for a vote to kick out Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) due to his frequent collaboration with Democrats to pass their agenda items. The last straw was Johnson collaborating with Democrats to pass a $95 billion foreign aid bill which did nothing to secure the southern border and actually gave NGOs money to facilitate illegal immigration.

Graham defended Johnson in a post on X, suggesting Johnson was “the best Speaker” the country has had in living memory. He did not specify accomplishments or traits to back up his assertion, however. He called Greene “an interesting person” who seems “fearless” but suggested that her call to kick Johnson out of the Speakership could cause political damage to the Republican party in advance of the November general elections.

Graham said he gave God thanks for Johnson and testified to Johnson’s piety, suggesting the Speaker “loves God” and could be the beneficiary of “His” wisdom.

He asked Greene to reconsider her plans in the same post, suggesting Johnson needs support not antagonism.

Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) have led the charge to condemn Johnson over his repeated violation of conservative principles and willingness to play politics with the Democrats. Greene suggested Johnson has become unrecognizable in his role as Speaker, with his voting behavior and rhetoric changing dramatically upon accepting the office. Johnson also moved to reauthorize the FISA process for obtaining wiretapping warrants despite intense criticism from his own party and the Republican base. He cited classified briefings when asked to explain his change in behavior to the press.

Graham lauded Johnson’s willingness to disperse foreign aid. He said that Johnson came to the decision after careful reflection and prayer which is why Graham endorsed it.

Graham also defended Johnson suggesting the Speaker “has a hard job” and there’s no way he can satisfy everyone. He added that he liked Johnson and suggested everyone should pray for him.
