Disney’s Terrible Year Is Getting Worse

(ConservativeJournal.org) – Disney subsidiary Marvel Studios is having a rough year, but things could get worse pending the outcome of the criminal trial of Jonathan Majors, the actor slated to play Kang, the major villain in future Marvel films. Majors stands accused of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, and his guilt or innocence could spell disaster or boon to the Disney superhero franchise.

Jabbari accuses Majors of assault in March while the couple was in New York City. He’s emphatically denied all the charges. Despite denials and the right to innocence until proven guilty, Major’s publicist, the Lede Company, dropped him. His management company, Entertainment 360 similarly decided to part ways.

Variety is also reporting that a past management company, Creative Artists Agency, dropped him before any news of his arrest due to Majors reportedly engaging in “brutal conduct” with its employees.

He stands accused of two third-degree assault charges, harassment and attempted assault. Guilt could land him in jail for up to a year. His attorneys told Newsweek that Majors was often the victim of physical altercations with his ex-girlfriend, suggesting the charges are misplaced.

He was anticipated to play the role of Kang the Conqueror in several upcoming Marvel films and had already played the part in the series “Loki” and the feature film “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantunmania.” He could be replaced, should they find him guilty.

Disney isn’t ready to cut him out yet, he’s still signed onto Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). He has previously established his screen presence in HBO’s “Lovecraft Country.”

Disney’s been having a rough time itself, it’s been the worst financial year for Marvel movies since 2014, except 2020 when it released no films due to the pandemic. It’s still managed to bring in $1.51 billion in 2023 in ticket sales.

“The Marvels” flopped bringing in only $47 million when $60 million was expected. It was the worst-ever opening weekend of any Marvel film to date.
