Baby Product Recall, Nationwide ‘Suffocation’ Warning

(ConservativeJournal.org) – US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a national recall of crib bumpers sold on AliExpress. Allegedly, the bumpers are a potential “suffocation hazard“.

On Thursday, May 30, the CPSC stated that these crib bumpers can be dangerous if a baby moves around too much and can possibly get them stuck in a position that blocks their breathing. The CPSCA is urging anybody who bought the bumpers to immediately stop using the product and to get a refund from AliExpress.

The recalled bumpers were sold in clear plastic bags and were available in different colors and varieties. The bumpers also have no labels or markings or warnings.

According to the CPSC, luckily there have not been any reported injuries or incidents related to these products, and the recall is mostly for precautionary purposes.

Crib bumpers are a product designed to cover the sides of a crib to make sure that the baby’s head does not go in between the crib bars. However, in May 2022, the Safe Sleep for Babies Act was enacted. This meant that all crib bumpers, except for mesh ones, were completely banned from being made or sold in the US.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also issued several recalls on baby products, particularly formula, in the past year. Recently, it was announced that over three types of baby formula powder are to be banned in the US due to not passing any FDA regulation.

A spokesperson for AliExpress stated that all the crib bumper products are being taken off their website. AliExpress has also notified any customers who bought the products to stop using them as soon as possible. The spokesperson emphasized that AliExpress itself is not the maker of the product, and that they are only acting as the storefront for the companies who manufacture the crib bumpers.
