(ConservativeJournal.org) – Actor André Braugher died on December 11th, he was 61 years old. Braugher’s death was caused by a brief illness, according to Deadline.
Braugher’s performance on “Homicide: Life on the Street” earned him an Emmy in 1998, he also won a second Emmy for his 2006 portrayal of Nick Atwater in the FX miniseries “Thief.” He’d been nominated 11 times during his life.
He played roles in numerous television shows including “Men of a Certain Age,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” His first feature film and debut acting role was for “Glory” (1989), which was a film about black soldiers serving in the Union Army in the Civil War. The film featured stars like Denzel Washington and Matthew Broderick. He also played Jackie Robinson, the first black man to play for a Major League Baseball team in “The Court-Martial of Jackie Robinson.”
His jaw-dropping performances in “Homicide” as Frank Pemberton followed, as well as other performances in films like “City of Angels,” “Poseidon,” “Primal Fear,” “Frequency,” “Salt,” “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” and more.
He played no-nonsense police Captain Raymond Holt in the comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” which earned him four Emmy nominations.
His most recent work was on “She Said,” a drama portraying the story of New York Times journalists Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor who’s reporting led to infamous Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s downfall and kicked off the #metoo movement. In the film, he plays Executive Editor Dean Baquet who was in charge of the two reporters.
His next project was slated to be the Netflix show “The Residence.” The show is billed as a comedic murder mystery set in the White House and based on Kate Andersen Brower’s book by the same name.
Braugher hailed from Chicago, and attended Stanford University and Juilliard, where he got his formal training in acting.
He’s survived by his wife of over thirty years, Ami Brabson, an actress whom he met on the set of “Homicide.” They were married in the early 90s and had three sons, John Wesley, Isaiah, and Michael.
