(ConservativeJournal.org) – Former President Trump remains the clear GOP frontrunner for the Republican nomination with 54% of likely GOP primary voters supporting him, according to a recent poll from Trafalgar.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis comes in 2nd place with 16.7% with former UN ambassador Nikki Haley gaining on him at 16.2%. Former NJ Gov. Chris Christie had 6.3% coming in fourth place, and Vivek Ramaswamy came in behind him with 4.3%. Other candidates were less than 1% of the total with nearly 2% of those asked reporting they were still undecided.
Almost 89% of respondents indicated they were “very likely” to vote in the 2024 Republican primary, while 9.8% said they were only “likely.” Less than 1% indicated they were unlikely to vote in the primary with a similar amount suggesting they were unsure.
Individuals polled were mostly over the age of 45, while roughly a quarter were between the ages of 25 and 44. Just 5.4% reported being 18 to 24. Women and men took up roughly the same proportion, 49.2% to 50.8% of the sample.
Eighty-two percent were white, 2.2% black, 6.2% Hispanic, 3.3% Asian, and 5.9% considered themselves something other than the aforementioned categories.
The poll was taken between Nov. 30 and Dec 2 and has a margin of error of 2.9%, it also queried 1,084 people likely to vote in the GOP primary.
Haley has gotten a surge of public support recently, from JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to Charles Koch, the remaining Koch brother. Dimon was speaking during a summit hosted by the New York Times and suggested Haley was a better option than Trump.
Haley received a major endorsement from neoconservative Koch-led Americans for Prosperity (AFP).
Trump will attend a fundraiser in Florida on December 6th while the other candidates are scheduled to attend the fourth GOP primary debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Trump refuses to attend GOP primary debates, as he’s been scorned by the party machinery and believes himself the exclusive heir to the 2024 GOP nomination due to his popular support.
