2023 Marks Worst Year Ever At The Border

(ConservativeJournal.org) – At least 3.2 million illegal immigrant encounters have been documented nationwide since the start of 2023, according to the House Committee that handles issues of Homeland Security. An October 26 report from the Daily Wire calls the developments the “worst year” in American history for matters related to immigration and points out that the crisis is not limited only to the nation’s southern border.

While almost 2.5 million Customs and Border Protection migrant engagements were reported at the U.S. border with Mexico in the fiscal year of 2023, almost 190,000 of the same were reported at the nation’s northern border with Canada. The total number of Canada-based illegal entries into the United States were shown to have jumped by almost 80,000 since 2022.

For the sake of year over year reference, encounters recorded at the northern border in 2021 numbered just over 27,000. Numbers reported on the southern border were far higher, as many might expect, but the percentage increases from fiscal year to fiscal year were comparable.

According to the data, engagements have risen by over 100% since former President Trump’s last full year in office. Fiscal year 2023 apprehensions increased by more than 40% over the same period in 2021 and a smaller 4% jump was reported since 2022. The investigating committee referred to their findings as “another unprecedented milestone” during the tenure of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Majorkas.

Illegal encounters reported from both borders and the nation’s interior totaled 3.2 million for FY 2023. When combining that total with the additional estimated number of 1.7 million “gotaways,” one arrives at 4.9 million encounters. Readers may note that those numbers are limited to the findings of the committee in question.

Other estimates suggest a far higher tally, perhaps even as much as double. Excluding gotaways, one report put the Biden Presidency illegal immigration total at almost 8.4 million.
